The Union of European Football Associations, UEFA, paid Liverpool and Chelsea €3.5 million (£3.3 million) for participating in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.

Liverpool also received an additional bonus of €1 million (£940,000) for lifting the trophy ahead of Chelsea, according to LiveSoccer TV.

Jurgen Klopp’s side won the UEFA Super Cup barely three months after they lifted the Champions League trophy.

The Reds defeated Chelsea 5-4 on penalties in Istanbul, Turkey on Wednesday to clinch their first silverware of this season.

Olivier Giroud gave the Blues the lead in the first half, before Sadio Mane bundled home the equalizer.

Mane then fired Liverpool into the lead in extra time, but Jorginho rolled in a penalty after Tammy Abraham was brought down by Adrian.

Abraham, however, turned villain, as he was the only player to miss a penalty during the shoot-out.
