Chelsea midfielder, Jorginho has urged the Blues fans to recognise him as ‘Jorginho who plays for Chelsea, not Jorginho who only works with Sarri.’
The 27-year-old said this following Chelsea’s UEFA Super Cup 5-4 penalty loss to Liverpool on Wednesday night in Istanbul.
Olivier Giroud gave Frank Lampard’s side the lead in the first half before Sadio Mane bundled home the equalizer.
Mane then fired Liverpool into the lead in extra time, but Jorginho rolled in a penalty after Tammy Abraham was brought down by Adrian.
Abraham, however, turned anti-hero, as he was the only player to miss a penalty during the shoot-out.
“I want to be known as Chelsea Jorginho, not as Sarri Jorginho,” Jorginho told Brazilian television channel, Esporte Interativo after the match.
“I was a little sad seeing people thinking I arrived here only because of the coach [Sarri]. I arrived here because of my hard work, my day to day work, my sacrifices.
“It’s a challenge for me to show the fans that thanks to my work it’s why I got here. I want to take this opportunity to have a good season and also for my name to be recognized by Jorginho who plays for Chelsea, not Jorginho who only works with Sarri.”
Jorginho spent three years under Sarri at Napoli and was his first signing as Chelsea manager, joining in a £52million deal.
