Cristiano Ronaldo scored again after almost 300 minutes of play, as Real Madrid beat Schalke 04 on Wednesday.
The Portugal international timed his run into the box well, to head the current holders in front, before setting up Marcelo to unleash an unstoppable drive.
In the other match of the day, FC Porto came from behind to draw 1-1 with Basle in Switzerland.
Derlis Gonzalez latched onto a fine pass to bravely tuck away for the hosts in the 11th minute. The Portuguese club had a goal disallowed, but Danilo eventually levelled from the spot.
The Champions League returns next week with more exciting fixtures.
