Monaco left-back Elderson Echiejile, has expressed his relief after his club progressed to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, despite losing 2-0 to Arsenal on Tuesday night.
Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey scored for the Gunners, as they tried to reverse a 3-1 loss at the Emirates. It proved to be mission impossible, as they were eliminated on away goals rule.
Echiejile, who is the only Nigerian player left in the competition, came on in the 86th minute of the game as the Ligue 1 side tried to see out the game.
He tweeted afterwards: “For us it was important to make it through to the next round. It’s now time to get focused on other task ahead. Great qualification, looking ahead to the next round.”
The defender was snubbed by stand-in Super Eagles coach for the upcoming friendlies. .
