Lionel Messi broke yet another record on Tuesday night, after he scored a hat-trick in Barcelona’s 4-0 demolition of APOEL, to take his Champions League goals to 74 – three more than Raul’s.
Luis Suarez scored his first goal for the club, with a sublime piece of individual effort, before Messi doubled Barca’s lead with an instinctive finish. The dimunitive Argentine scored twice in the second half, to grab his second hat-trick in three days.
Elsewhere, Messi’s international team-mate Sergio Aguero, also scored a hat-trick, as Manchester City overcame 10-man Bayern Munich 3-2 at the Etihad.
Chelsea showed no mercy to former manager Roberto Di Matteo, as they crushed his Schalked 04 team 5-0. Edinson Cavani scored a brace as Paris Saint-Germain beat Ajax 3-1, while Sporting Lisbon defeated Maribor 3-1.
CSKA Moscow grabbed a late leveller to hold Roma to a 1-1 draw and Athletic Bilbao beat Shakhtar Donestk 1-0.
