Nigeria U-23 striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, has assured fans that the team will put up a better display, when they face Egypt in their second group game at the Africa U-23 Championship in Senegal.
The Dream Team claimed a narrow victory in their opener, beating Mali 3-2.
Awoniyi revealed his relief at claiming all three points from the match, despite the second-half onslaught from the Malians.
“That’s football for you (the narrow win against Mali), but we thank God that we were able to hold on to our lead and secure the three points,” Awoniyi told CompleteSports.
“By God’s grace, there will be an improved performance on Wednesday against Egypt.”
If Nigeria defeats Egypt on Wednesday, they will book their place in the semi-final of the tournament.
