U-23 AFCON: Nigeria throw away two-goal lead to draw against Egypt

Nigeria have not qualified for the semi-finals of the Africa U-23 Championship, after they failed to defeat Egypt at the Caroline Faye Stadium on Wednesday.

The Dream Team VI raced into a two-goal lead, thanks to two well-taken penalties by Oghenekaro Etebo.

However, the North Africans were level within seven minutes of the restart. Ramdan Sobi pulled one back with a header from inside the six-yard box, before Chizoba Amaefule diverted a low cross into his own net.

Samson Siasia’s boys will now face Algeria in their last group match on Saturday for a place in the last four.

Algeria are top of the group with four points and a better goals difference than Nigeria.
