The Nigerian Under-20 team, Falconets on Wednesday defeated their Canadian counterparts 3-1 to boost their chances of qualifying for the next round of the FiFA Under-20 Women World Cup in Papua New Guinea.

The Nigerian girls bounced back from their opening 6-0 defeat in the hands of Japan to beat the Canadians.

Chinaza Uchendu, Joy Bokiri and Chiwendu Ihezuo scored one each to helped Nigeria come from behind to register their first 3 points at the competition.

The North Americans started the game a better side and took the lead in the 15th minute of play through Gabrielle Carle.

The Falconets, who gradually got into the game, drew level from the spot after a Canadian defender handled the ball in the box.

Nigeria took the lead after Joy Bokiri slotted past Rylee Foster in just 37 seconds into the second period from a poor clearance by the Canadian defence.

Ihezuo marked her brilliant performance in the game when she also benefited from yet another poor clearance by the Canadians, this time, by goalkeeper Foster to give Nigeria a 3-1 lead in the 73rd minute.
