Captain of Nigeria’s U-20 women team, Sandra Chichi, has insisted they can still qualify for the quarter-final of the ongoing U-20 Women’s World Cup, after they beat Canada 3-1 on Wednesday.
Chinasa Uchendu, Joy Bokiri and Chinwendu Ihezuo scored for Peter Dedevbo’s ladies, as they came from behind to beat the North Americans at the Bava Park, Port Moresby.
“We’re happy with our performance. We did better than our first game and very glad about our victory today [Wednesday],” Chichi told Goal.
“I believe in my teammates. We are not under pressure to do well despite the defeat in our first match. This victory will help us play well in our next game.
“The confidence I have in my team is because almost all of us have tasted the World Cup. We know the kind of players we have and everyone here is determined to make Nigerians proud.
“Our target is to reach the next round after we made the finals last time in Canada. Nigerians are expecting a lot from us and we are not losing hope but want to give our best.
“In our next match, I’m very confident that we will win and qualify through the prayers and support of Nigerians.”
Nigeria now have three points from two games, after losing their first match against Japan.
