U-17 World Cup: Eaglets thrash Iraq 5-0 to qualify for next round

The Golden Eaglets this evening walloped Iraq 5-0, to progress to the next round of the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup in Dubai.

Manu Garba’s boys took the lead as early as the 3rd minute, thanks to Musa Muhammed’s penalty kick, after Musa Yahaya was hacked in the area. Chidiebere Nwakili doubled the lead, before Yahaya got his first in the 17th minute, with a cool finish.

The Asians almost got one back in the 33rd, but Dele Alampasu pulled off a fine double save to deny Sajjad Hussein. Eight minutes later, Yahaya got his second, heading in a corner kick. Alampasu made more excellent stops early in the second half. Second-half substitute Chigozie Obasi then lashed in a fifth in the 90th minute, after the Iraqis failed to clear their lines.

Nigeria qualified as winners of Group F and will play the runners-up from Group E in the second round.
