TY Danjuma visits Jonathan, refuses to endorse him for second term

A former Minister of Defence, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, on Wednesday had a secret meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The former military personel, however failed to endorse President Jonathan for another term.

It was gathered that the brief meeting, which lasted for about 15 minutes, took place inside Jonathan’s residence earlier on Wednesday.

When State House correspondents approached Danjuma, who is Chairman of the Victims Support Fund for comment on the purpose of the early morning meeting, he said it was private.

When prodded further by newsmen to at least explain the reason behind the sudden visit, especially now that the election is around the corner, the former general warned them against carrying unverified news about his visit.

Danjuma added that he needed to see Jonathan and find out developments in the country after returning from a trip oversees.

“Don’t speculate. I came to visit the President and find out how things are going. I have been abroad. I just came back,” he said.

Asked which of the party he’s supporting in the coming election, Danjuma said he’s neutral and does not belong to any political party. “I don’t canvass (for votes). I am not in any of the political parties. The President is Nigeria’s President,” he simply said.
