A 28-year-old man, Abdullahi Aliyu and Nura Ibrahim, 23, have been sentenced to one year imprisonment in addition to 10 strokes of cane by magistrates court 3, NDA junction in Kaduna.
The Chief Magistrate, Justice Abdulaziz Ibrahim, said in his judgment that Abdullahi Aliyu and Nura Ibrahim were handed the punishment for criminal conspiracy and theft of 3 core 150mm armoured cable, and 200mm belonging to Kaduna Electric.
Earlier, the Civil Defence prosecutor, Shamsudeen Labaran, in his first information report said that on the 22nd of October, 2016 at about 03:00hrs, Abdullahi Aliyu, male, 28 years of No 4 Jagi Road, Unguwan Shanu, Kaduna and Nura Ibrahim, 23 years, male of No 8, Garin Kurama Road, Unguwan Shanu, Kaduna conspired and jumped into Kaduna Electric premises Abakwa substation and broke the window of the PC&M store and took away with 3 core 150mm armoured cable 5m length 200mm belonging to Kaduna Electric.
The two vandals were immediately after the judgment whisked away to prison to begin their sentence.
The Head, Corporate Communication of Kaduna Electric, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, said the company was pleased with the judgment and hopes that other vandals would take heed and desist from such acts.
He said Kaduna Electric together with the police and civil defence corps have teamed up to put the heat on vandals who have been sabotaging the company’s operations by vandalizing power installations, adding that whoever was caught would be swiftly brought to face the wrath of the law.
