Two men bag 12 months for stealing ladies’ clothes in Lagos

Two men, who stole some ladies’ clothes, are to remain behind bars for six months each on the order of an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. The sentence is without an option of fine.

The convicts — Nuhu Sadiku, 25, and Tahiru Abdulahi, 30 — both of Alhaji Seriki’s house, Mile 12 Market, Ketu, Lagos, were arraigned for unlawful possession of women clothes in commercial quantity.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the duo had pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, who gave the judgment, advised the convicts to engage in productive ventures instead of taking to stealing.

She said the men should be made to acquire some vocational skills like basket weaving while serving their prison terms.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 5 at Mile 12, Ketu, a Lagos suburb.

He said the accused were caught with some ladies’ clothes at about 4.30 p.m. and that when they were questioned, they could not give a satisfactory account of the items.

“They were arrested for being in possession of some items reasonably suspected to have been stolen.’’

The offence contravened Section 327 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section provides a fine of N90, 000 or imprisonment for six months.
