One Isreal Idowu, 29, and Jordan Emmanuel, 24, were on Tuesday arraigned in an Oredo Magistrates’ Court in Benin City, for allegedly assaulting police officers on duties.
The duo, who reside at No 8, Akali Street, Off Agboma, Off Ekewan Road, Benin City, were said to have committed the offence on March 28, NAN reports.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Mohammed Shaibu, told the court that the defendants assaulted one Onohi Ehineboh and Sgt. Stella Obrikogho by willfully obstructing them from performing their official duties as police officials.
Shaibu said the offence is punishable under Section 356 (2) of the Criminal Code Cap 48, Vol. II Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 now applicable in Edo State.
The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr J.O. Uwoshiren, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 each and a surety each in the like sum.
Uwoshiren said that the surety must a civil servant on grade 8 and above.
He adjourned the case until April 15 for hearing.
