There was confusion in Idi Iroko, Mushin area of Lagos over the weekend as two persons were allegedly killed and 14 others sustained varied degrees of injuries when some hoodlums went on rampage in the area.
Trouble started when a notorious kingpin in the area incited some hoodlums against the residents due to N1b million he allegedly paid over a land.
Report says one Eniba was shot dead while another unidentified victim was also killed during the ensuing fracas.
The hoodlums took advantage of the of the situation to break into houses, looting shops and attacking residents of the area, while they were seen publicly brandishing weapons such as cutlasses, sticks and guns.
According to a resident of the area, Mrs. Oladapo, the victims were killed during a gun duel with the hoodlums.
She affirmed: “The unfortunate thing is that while the crisis was ongoing, they looted shops, broke into houses and even molested residents. It was a scary experience. Government should do something quickly. Violence here is becoming a recurring decimal.”
Efforts to restore normalcy in the area by Police officers from the Alakara Division however failed.
While confirming the incident, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer said, “Nobody was killed. Two suspects were rather arrested in connection with the skirmish. Normalcy has been restored to the area.”
