The authorities of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local government area, ONELGA of Rivers state have condemned the recent resurgence of violence in the area.
At least two persons were killed and the third kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Omoku in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local government area, ONELGA of Rivers state. The kidnapped person was identified as Jeremiah Uche, who is a former member of ONELGA Caretaker Committee.
It was gathered that Uche was kidnapped at gunpoint at his resident in the early hours of yesterday, while two of his friends who had paid him a visit were shot dead.
A source who confirmed the incident to DAILY POST on telephone said the masked hoodlums also took the lifeless bodies of their victims, including a former President of Obrikom community Youth, Julius Amadi.
Though the Rivers State Police Command is yet to confirm the latest incident of violent attack in ONELGA, the Chairman of the LGA, Osi Olisah blamed politicians in the area for the attack.
Olisah fingered leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the area for allegedly sponsoring the attack.
He said the cult group that led the ambush on Police officers during the December 10th rerun elections at Ujju also carried out the attack in Omoku.
Olisah said, “ We are disturbed by these attacks. We are putting a lot of effort to restore peace in ONELGA but some people have used their selfish political ambisti ok n to erode the successes we have achieved.
“The boys carrying out these attacks are working for brothers in the APC. They are the ones that have refused to accept the amnesty of the State Government. But we don’t need these distractions. ONELGA is our own. They cause crisis and run to other places.
“Let’s come together and build our home. Politics shouldn’t divide us.
Recall that a police officer was beheaded and another disappeared during the rerun elections on 10th December.
