Residents of Umarari in Maiduguri, Borno State are currently reeling in fear, following a bomb explosion in the early hours of Friday.
DAILY POST gathered that a female suicide bomber in Umarari ward of Maiduguri, the state capital, this morning detonated an Improvised Explosive Device, IED, strapped to her waist leading to the death of two others.
A security source who spoke with DAILY POST said, “Already soldiers have gone there and the situation is calm. There was serious panic that this is happening, but you know recently the Boko Haram has been making frantic effort to launch attacks in Maiduguri.
“I think they are only trying to change tactics. The last time they were hitting around Damboa road and they are shifting position but they will never succeed.”
However, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, Victor Isaku, while confirming the incident said security agents killed three of the suicide bombers.
In a statement, Ishiaku said, “This morning, three female suicide bombers with IED strapped to their bodies were sighted by military patrol team in Umarari village along Maiduguri/Damboa road near Mulai. They were moving towards Maiduguri.
“They were promptly gunned down and the IED on two of them exploded killing all three of them.”
Ishiaku further disclosed that the police bomb disposal unit was mobilized to the scene immediately.
“The unexploded IED on the third was rendered safe and detonated by Police Bomb Disposal Unit who promptly mobilized to the scene,” Isuku added.
