Residents of Nkpor community in Anambra State were on Saturday thrown into a state of pandemonium as clash between two rival cult groups in the community left no fewer than two persons dead, while 10 others sustained varied degrees of injuries.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, Mr Hassan Musa, the Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Ogidi Divisional Police Headquarters said the clash claimed the lives of two persons.
He stated that on getting the report of the clash, a combined team of the Mobile policemen and the Police Anti-Cult Squad set out to the scene of the incident only to discover that two unidentified persons have already been killed.
Musa further stated that the deceased were however taken away by their cult members so as to avoid been traced by the police, adding that the matter is under investigation.
A source from the Department of State Services, DSS, alleged that the clash occurred between the Aiye confraternity and their Akpa rival.
The source stressed that the cultist took to their heels on sighting police officers at the scene of the clash.
“It is not possible to ascertain whether the deceased members and the injured ones were from only one cult group or from both sides.
“However, those whose members were killed ensured that they took their corpses away before the arrival of the Police Anti-cult Squad and Mobile police,”he said.
