Two people were seriously injured on Saturday night in Abuja when two vehicles rammed into each other at the Wuse Zone 3 area of Abuja, in what was allegedly caused by a flout of traffic rules and regulations.
The accident involving a silver Peugeot 306 with registration number DQ 789 ABC and an 18-seater Ford Econovan with number XC 932 NEN, occured around 9pm.
The conductor of the bus who spoke to DailyPost and identified himself as Bright, blamed the driver of the saloon car for the incident. He said his bus was coming from Maraba and heading towards Wuse park when the Peugeot 306 that seemed to had mixed its way rammed into the bus he was conducting.
Bright who spoke to our correspondent in pidgin English narrated how the accident happened. He said: “Na these big people dey spoil this country. The man don drive pass where him suppose do turning. Instead make him go up and use the next turn (before Wuse), him reverse for this place (pointing to the T-junction). As him dey reverse with speed, we dey come behind, since na we get the lane. But as we near the car, him don near us well well, so as my driver turn hand to avoid him, naso we jam.”
He said the collision was so hard that the two vehicles climbed the culvert (between the new Total and Obat Filling Stations, few meters from the Zone 3 Police Headquarters).
The two injured persons where the bus driver and a passenger; both male. They were taken to an undisclosed hospital in the Wuse area.
On what action he and his friend would take, Bright disclosed that the owner of the car admitted he was wrong and pleaded he does not want to press charges, adding that he was ready to foot the bill of the bus repair and those injured.
When querried about the whereabout of the car owner, Bright said: “him go bring people wey go tow the two” (pointing to both vehicles).
Before our reporter left the scene, a towing truck had arrived but the owner of the car was still nowhere in sight.
The Federal Road Safety Commission recently said more than half of road accidents were caused by impatience and disregard for traffic laws.
