Two unemployed men who stole cable wires worth N20, 000 were on Monday arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos State.
The accused persons, Aliu Temitope, 27, and 20-year-old Wale Tope were arraigned on a one count charge of stealing.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Uko, both men committed the offence on June 13 at about 10:00am, at No 1, Deeper Life Bus Stop in Oto Awori area of the State.
The prosecutor told the court that the accused persons stole the cable wires from the house of one Tella Segun, the complainant.
“Thinking that no one would be there, the accused persons went to the house of the complainant and removed the cable wires which was for the DSTV in the house.
“The complainant, who was at home, noticed that the DSTV was not working anymore, so he went to check for the problem and that was when he caught the accused carrying out the act,” he said.
Uko observed that the offence contravened Section 278 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Counsel to the accused, Segla Akinlade appealed to the court to grant them bail on liberal terms, noting that they would not jump bail.
The Magistrates, Abiodun Etti, consequently granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 and a surety each, adding that they must provide evidence of tax payment to the court.
Etti adjourned the case till July 27 for further hearing.
