Two docked for attempting to rob woman at an ATM machine in Lagos


Two men John Lukas, 21, and 23-year-old Bulus Amos were on Tuesday brought before a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court sitting in Lagos for attacking a woman and stabbing a man with a knife at an Automated Teller Machine, ATM, spot.

Both accused persons were arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy and assault occasioning harm.

While testifying against the defendants in court, the prosecutor, Inspector Livinus Okeke said the accused persons had on May 2 at about 12.30pm committed the offences at the ATM an spot around Ojomu Market, Lekki, Lagos.

The prosecutor said the suspects tried to dispossess one Miss Pauline Ogebe of her money after she had just finished using the ATM machine, and in the process the other victim, Mr Unity Osayuwame, who intervened was stabbed in the process.

Okeke further noted that both victims raised the alarm, leading to the arrest of the suspects.

Both suspects however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The presiding Magistrate, L. A. Owolabi however granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N40, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was consequently adjourned by Owolabi till May 25.
