Twitter suspends, restores Osinbajo’s account

Social media platform, Twitter has within the last 24 hours, taken some measures on the official handle of Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, @ProfOsinbajo.

Twitter first suspended the account. Hours later, it was suspended but now unverified.

However, Twitter normally sends the account owner explanation on why such action was taken.

The profile picture or header image of @ProfOsinbajo has not been restored as at the time of filing this report.

A check by DAILY POST on its website showed that the tech giant listed why accounts are suspended.

It read: “Spam: Most of the accounts we suspend are suspended because they are spammy, or just plain fake, and they introduce security risks for Twitter and all of our users. These types of accounts are against our Twitter Rules. Unfortunately, sometimes a real person’s account gets suspended by mistake, and in those cases we’ll work with the person to make sure the account is unsuspended.

“Account security at risk: If we suspect an account has been hacked or compromised, we may suspend it until it can be secured and restored to the account owner in order to reduce potentially malicious activity caused by the compromise.

“Abusive Tweets or behavior: We may suspend an account if it has been reported to us as violating our Rules surrounding abuse. When an account engages in abusive behavior, like sending threats to others or impersonating other accounts, we may suspend it temporarily or, in some cases, permanently.”

In response to an enquiry by DAILY POST, Osinbajo’s media aide, Laolu Akande said attempts had been made to hack into the account.

“Yesterday, there were failed external attempts to gain unauthorized access to the Vice President’s Twitter account,” he said.

“Since, we have been in contact with Twitter, securing the account, and forestalling a reoccurrence. The VP will continue to actively communicate with our citizens.”
