Former defender, Rio Ferdinand has lambasted defenders, Kyle Walker over ‘criminal’ defence after the Manchester City star conceded a penalty in England’s World Cup clash against Tunisia on Monday evening.
Walker was penalised for blocking the run of Syam Ben Youssef with his elbow in England’s penalty area.
Tunisian forward, Ferjani Sassi stepped up and put the ball behind goalkeeper Jordan Pickford as Tunisia went into the break level.
Ferdinand said on BBC, “If Kyle Walker is positioned correctly, he doesn’t concede a penalty. “A centre-half facing his own goal when a ball is coming into the box is criminal.”
Also speaking on the player, Martin Keown, the ex-Arsenal and England star, added, “There can’t be any real complaints from Walker and it’s an outstanding penalty by Sassi.
“I thought Pickford might have got there but his fingertips just cannot keep it out.”
