One of the leading gubernatorial aspirants in Ekiti on the platform of the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP), Rev. Tunde Afe, Wednesday, said President Muhammadu Buhari’s claim that he didn’t know that IGP, Ibrahim Idris flouted his directive on the Benue crisis is ridiculous.
Afe, in a statement by his Media Assistant, Omolabake Akinyemi-Oke, described the development as both unpalatable and unpardonable in the face of continuing security challenges.
According to him, “While the President may be doing his utmost best to contain the security challenges, it is simply unacceptable for people saddled with the task of averting further slide to act aloof without necessary sanctions.
“It is sad that hardly does a day goes by without the news of wanton killings and destruction of properties being reported. Life appears to be cheap and nobody is been held to give account for such distasteful breaches. It’s continuation is saddening and callous.
“The President must ensure the safety of lives and properties without which there cannot be development. Peace as a necessary pre-condition must be ensured to justify the existence of government.”
“The APC led government must do more than assurances that get punctured by series of mindless killings and continued grave insecurity. The government of the day needs to take drastic steps to ensure that our nation is safe at all costs”, Afe maintained.
