Tsav blames Benue APC crises on Akume

Social critic and one-time Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has attributed the crisis in the Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to lack of proper handling of party issues by the leadership of the party in the state headed by Senator George Akume.

Tsav, who was speaking on the development on Sunday in Makurdi, the state capital, said, “Akume encouraged impunity and lack of internal democracy in the state chapter of the APC leading to the imposition of candidates at all levels because he is the leader of the party.

“We can now all see that his actions may be hunting the party. Following the cases already decided by the court and it is becoming obvious that the governorship position is slipping away and many APC members may lose their seats in their respective positions as well.”

He went on to urge the national leadership of the party to investigate the role played by Akume in the emergence of Ortom as APC governorship candidate, having lost the primaries in PDP, insisting that: “They must do this if the party truly identifies with President Muhammadu Buhari in the fight against corruption.”

The ex-Police chief also recommended stiff punishment by the party leadership against the senator if at the end of the investigation, the senator was found culpable in the circumstances that brought Dr. Samuel Ortom as the party’s flag bearer at the last governorship election.

“Let us start the cleansing here if we are honest and sincere in our acclaimed fight against corruption and impunity,” adding, ‘it ‘ll be recalled that Ortom was PDP gubernatorial candidate until he lost in the primaries in the party and quickly switch over to APC,” he stated.
