Donald Trump, Republican presidential candidate, has praised Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying he had been “more of a leader than U.S. President Barack Obama.
He said on Wednesday night in New York during a televised forum that he had great respect for the Russians and would have a wonderful relationship with Putin.
“I think I will be able to get along with him.
“He has been a leader. Far more than our president has been a leader,” he said.
Trump noted that the advantage of the U.S. having a good relationship with Russia was that Moscow wanted to destroy Islamic State as badly as the U.S. did.
He said it would be a wonderful story if such idea is worked on.
Trump, however, criticised Putin for having “very strong control” over his country, describing it as a very different political system that he didn’t like. NAN
