US President, Donald Trump, has banned passengers travelling into the country from 10 airports in eight Muslim countries, from carrying laptops, tablets and other portable electronic devices on board.
The new law go into effect from Tuesday. Federal officials have said the ban is indefinite.
If a passenger must travel with these electronic devices, they must be packed into their checked baggage, says the order.
Senior administration officials explained that the law was prompted by “evaluated intelligence”, that terrorists continue to target commercial aviation by “smuggling explosives in portable electronic devices.”
US airlines are not affected by the ban, because none offer direct US-bound flights from the affected airports.
The affected airports in eight countries are: Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Officials stated that the airports were selected based on the “current threat picture.”
