Truck crushes motorcyclist to death in Ibadan

A middle-aged man whose identity is yet to be known was on Tuesday crushed by a truck at the Bashorun-Idi Ape junction in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Eyewitnesses told DAILY POST that the man, who was riding a motorcycle popularly known as ‘Okada’ was going towards Agodi-Gate axis from Iwo road before he met his untimely death.

The DAF truck with registration number Gombe XB 911 AKK conveying goods was said to be going to the Bashorun when the incident happened.

Sources at the scene told DAILY POST that the deceased ram into the truck from behind and was later crushed to death.

It was, however, learnt that the owner of the crushed motorcycle slumped and collapsed on seeing that his motorcycle was damaged beyond repair. It took the intervention of the onlookers to revive him and saved the situation.

The witnesses also explained that the motorcycle owner said the crushed victim approached him to lend him the motorcycle to quickly get to somewhere urgent some minutes prior to the accident.

The truck driver and the remains of the crushed motorcycle were later taken to Testing Ground Police State, on the Iwo-Road axis.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, while reacting, confirmed that the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the Ade- Oyo hospital for autopsy.

Fadeyi in a telephone conversation with DAILY POST said, “What I heard  is that an Okada man (motorcyclist) was on top speed. The speed was much. It was only one person that died.

“According to the report I saw, it was the Okada man that rammed into the truck from behind. But, he was crushed to death.

“The corpse has been deposited at Ade-Oyo hospital for autopsy.”
