Four persons were on Sunday evening killed by a timber truck at Ondo Road in Akure, the State Capital.
The driver of the truck, identified as Friday Ambrose allegedly lost control of the vehicle, thereby hitting the victims, who were on motorbike along St. Louis Primary School located along the Ondo road.
It was learnt that two of the victims, a couple, are into cotton business at Oba-Adesida market in Akure.
Eyewitnesses said the timber lorry was coming from Arakale area of the town, heading to one of the sawmills along Ondo road when the truck with registration number Lagos XN 968 AKD swerved off its lane and faced the opposite direction, hitting the victims
The victims, whose names were unknown died instantly as the truck was reported to have dismembered their bodies beyond recognition.
But, the driver came out alive and without any hurt.
However, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Wole Ogodo, who confirmed the incident, said only one person died in the accident.
Ogodo explained that Babatunde died at State Specialist Hospital in Akure, after he was rushed to the place by sympathizers.
The police spokesman said he had not been officially informed about the death of the other victims.
The PPRO also disclosed that the driver, Ambrose had been arrested and was still in the custody of the police.
