The non-Academic Staff of Educational and Associated Institutes has vowed to use every available legal means to ensure that the National Office of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) addressed some issues confronting its members in the organisation.
Speaking at the National Executive Council of the union in Abuja, yesterday, the President, Chris Ani, called on the Head of WAEC in Nigeria to consider its recent letter detailing certain problems confronting NASEAI members in the examination council nationwide.
“While it is not the intention of NASEAI to disrupt activities in WAEC, we use this medium to reiterate that if our demands as enumerated in the letter to the Head of National Office are not positively addressed, NASEAI will have no choice than to take appropriate action that will guarantee positive resolution of the issues in dispute,” he said.
On the country’s recent exit from recession, NASEAI congratulated the federal government for the feat, and added that, “while it lasted, issues of workers’ welfare were relegated to the background.
“The period was characterised by wage freeze, increase in job insecurity, shortfalls and delays in the payment of salaries and withholding of other benefits of workers. That is why we are congratulating government and relevant officials for bringing the country out of recession.”
However, NASEAI said it will only celebrate with government “when workers’ welfare improves; jobs are secured; salaries are paid in full as and when due; wage increase is de-frozen and other withheld benefits are paid.”
