Troops of 33 Brigade Nigerian Army on patrol at Mai Hari village, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, have engaged armed bandits and kidnappers in a heavy shoot out.
Army spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman, in a statement said after fierce exchange of gun fire, the troops killed 2 of the kidnappers and rescued 4 women and a child earlier kidnapped.
The victims have been reunited with their families.
“The troops have continued with patrols and raids of suspected kidnappers and armed bandits hideouts in Bauchi and Gombe States under the auspices of Operation FOREST KUNAMA,” it said.
Some of the militants were dressed in Nigerian military camouflage.
250 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, Rocket Propelled Gun launcher, GPMG Belt links and various charms, among others, were recovered.
Last Saturday, same militants led by the declared wanted criminal kingpin, Benjamin Simplee (AKA G1) leader of the Bakassi Strike Force, in several speed boats attacked troops deployed at Efut Esighi waterfront in Bakassi LGA of Cross River State.
During the attack, a soldier was killed in action, while 2 soldiers were missing in action.
The troops killed two of the attackers.
