As part of Operation GAMA AIKI, troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE and Multinational Joint Task Force have captured Mallam Fatori in northern part of Borno State after a fierce battle closely covered by air operations.

Army spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, noted that the terrorists reinforced around the border with Niger Republic and resumed exchange of fire with troops.

He said several Boko Haram terrorists were killed in the resulting encounter.

Usman added that the the operation is continuing.

The incident is happening 24 hours after Boko Haram terrorists ambushed troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE escorting commercial vehicles from Damboa to Maiduguri, at Sanda general area, Borno State.

Five civilians lost their lives and another died on the way to the hospital. Three soldiers also sustained injuries.

Army spokesman, Col Sani Usman, in a statement said “the unfortunate incident has brought to the fore the need for more vigilance and cooperation amongst all.

“We would like to assure the public that we would not allow this isolated incident to thwart the peace and security commuters enjoy along the route and all other opened routes in the North East.

“Troops are on the heels of the attackers and would not relent till they are apprehended or killed as additional security measures have been placed to avert reoccurrence”.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Hunters Association has claimed that Boko Haram terrorists fear local hunters more than they fear troops of the Nigerian Army, because members of the association knows the secret of the terror sect.

Speaking in Yola, a retired police officer in charge of the association’s security in Adamawa, Garba Tarfa, stated that several hunters were “eager and waiting” for the go-ahead to overrun Sambisa forest and capture Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, alive, if given the permission.
