Troops of operation LAFIYA DOLE in conjunction with Vigilantes have arrested a high profile suspected Boko Haram kingpin identified as Mohammed Zauro.
A statement by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman on Tuesday said Zauro was arrested at Sabon Gari, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to Usman, “On Tuesday 2nd August 2016, at about 8.30am, troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE with assistance of Vigilantes on routine checks, identified and arrested a high profile suspected Boko Haram terrorist, Mohammed Mohammed Zauro at Sabon Gari, Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State.
“Preliminary investigation shows that the suspected terrorist kingpin was arrested as he was trying to flee to Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, from Sambisa forest.”
Usman said troops recovered a Gionee brand of mobile telephone handset and a “fake SAIE/JIBWIS identification card which he intends to use to perfect his escape and the sum of N7,900.00” from Zauro.
The Army spokesman added that another suspected Boko Haram terrorist, Lawal Aboi, was also intercepted by troops along “Damboa-Bale road while on his way to voluntarily surrender to the troops” in the town.
Aboi according to the Army wanted to surrender because he was “tired of fighting for no just cause.”
