Trial of female lawyer accused of stabbing husband to death continues

Yewande Oyediran, the 28-year-old Ibadan-based female lawyer accused of killing her husband, Lowo Oyediran, on Tuesday, appeared before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo state capital.

The accused, who is a member of staff of the Ministry of Justice in the state, was alleged to have stabbed her husband, Oyelowo Oyediran, to death on February 2 and had been remanded at Agodi Prison custody by the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Durosaro-Tijani, pending the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, in the state.

The Investigating Police Officer, IPO, Amos Adewale, at the brief hearing of the case on Tuesday, informed the Magistrate that based on legal advice from DPP, the Magistrate’s court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the case and so the case should be transferred to the state High court.

Yewande was consequently taken back to prison custody where she has been locked up since the attack happened.

The Chief Magistrate, however, adjourned the case till March 1st for continuation of trial.
