The police on Friday, arraigned a 31-year-old travel agent, David Ugwulegbo, in a Wuse Zone II Magistrates’ Court, Abuja for allegedly cheating an undergraduate of N1.3million.
The police charged Ugwulegbo, whose Travel Agency office is located at Kubwa, with three counts of criminal breach of trust, cheating and forgery.
The Prosecution Counsel, K.P Ebong, told the court that Miss Queen Ugwuebulam, of No 284 Ladoke Akintola Str. Garki Abuja, reported the matter on May 23, through a petition to the Commissioner of Police FCT Command Abuja.
Ebong said that on April 3, the complainant contacted and entrusted N1.3 million to the defendant’s agency to process applications for admission into Akdeniz Karpaz University in Cyprus.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant forged the letters of admission and the complainant was deported to Nigeria after arriving in Cyprus.
He alleged that the defendant collected the money and converted it to his personal use and creating an international embarrassment to his client.
Ebong said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 312, 322 and 346 of the Panel Code
After the charge was read to him, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Elizabeth Wurni, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million, with two sureties in like sum.
Wurni also ordered that sureties must be reliable and must be resident in the FCT with fixed residential addresses.
The Magistrate adjourned the case until Sept. 11, for hearing, NAN reports.
