Transfer: Woodward to sign three players Mourinho recommended for Man Utd

Manchester United are working on signing some of the players Jose Mourinho recommended to the board, before he was sacked in December 2018, the UK Sun reports.

Mourinho has since been replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has been working alongside United’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, as he seeks to rebuild the squad ahead of next season.

The Red Devils have already completed an £18million deal to sign winger Daniel James from Swansea City, but Solskjaer is also looking to recruit a new centre-back and a new central midfielder.

It is understood that some of the players on United’s current shortlist are direct recommendations from Mourinho.

Mourinho told United’s hierarchy that West Ham duo Declan Rice and Issa Diop would excel at Old Trafford and both have been targeted this summer.

United have already failed with their first bid to sign Diop, while West Ham have also told Solskjaer’s side to forget about trying to sign Rice.

It’s also claimed that it was Mourinho who initially ordered United to monitor Harry Maguire’s progress at Leicester City. And now United are in talks with Leicester and are hopeful of agreeing a fee that is lower than their £90million valuation.
