Chelsea are on the verge of announcing Gonzalo Higuain, even though the Argentine played it cool when he touched back down in Italy, following AC Milan’s Supercoppa defeat to Juventus.
Higuain came on as a substitute in Jeddah on Wednesday evening, after nearly missing what appears to be his farewell game, having been suffering from a fever.
After the game, Juve vice president Pavel Nedved, hinted that an announcement would be made shortly.
Chelsea are expected to bring in Higuain on loan until the end of the season, with his stay at Milan terminated, and if he meets a number of targets – such as appearances as goals – it will automatically trigger a further one-year loan.
Higuain and the rest of the Milan squad flew back to Italy in the early hours of Thursday morning and he was mobbed by a horde of reporters.
However, the striker played it cool when asked about the Chelsea rumours, saying: “Were you all waiting for me? If you want to create mess [regarding the Chelsea transfer], I’m not the right person for you in this sense.”
