Transfer: Serie A club, Sampdoria announce signing of Ronaldo

Sampdoria have confirmed the signing of Ronaldo Vieira from Leeds United.

After undergoing a medical earlier in the week, the midfielder has now officially sealed his £6.2million move to the Serie A side.

He has put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the Italian club.

“Sometimes in life things don’t go as you want them. Sometimes things are out of your control. But then you have to take these opportunities and give it your everything the same way I have always done.

“I have nothing but love for Leeds United. I have many great memories, I started my career at Leeds so I would like to thank every coach and member of staff who has been involved in my development, my teammates who have become like family to me and I wish them all the best for the future,” he posted on his official Twitter page.

The 20-year-old England U-21 international made 63 Championship appearances, scoring once.

He could make his competitive debut for the Serie A side against Fiorentina on Sunday, 19 August.

Vieira will be the fifth English player to play for the Italian club after Trevor Francis, David Platt, Des Walker and Lee Sharpe.
