Chelsea have opened talks with Inter Milan over a summer move for midfielder Matias Vecino as a replacement for Danny Drinkwater and Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri, who replaced Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge this month, is keen on signing a centre-back, another midfielder and a striker before the August 9 deadline.
Evening Standard reports that Vecino has emerged as Sarri’s primary target in midfield and Chelsea began talks over a deal this weekend.
The newspaper claimed that Sarri has asked Chelsea’s board to secure a deal for Vecino, who is valued at £31million.
Sarri and Vecino worked with each other at Empoli and the manager views the midfielder as an upgrade on current midfield options: Bakayoko and Drinkwater.
Chelsea signed Bakayoko for £40million from Monaco last summer, and the Frenchman has struggled to adapt to the demands of the Premier League.
Inter’s Vecino has developed into a top-class midfielder, even as Chelsea asked Inter Milan about a possible deal after their pre-season friendly against the club over the weekend.
