Real Madrid’s new coach, Julen Lopetegui has finally commented on report linking his forward, Gareth Bale with a summer move from the club to join Manchester United.
Bale has been linked in recent weeks, with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu to join the Premier League giants.
The Welsh international joined the Los Blancos for £87million in 2013 and has since won the Champions League four times, scoring twice in the 3-1 final victory over Liverpool in May this year.
The 29-year-old was not regularly featured in the first-team under former Real Madrid coach, Zinedine Zidane last season.
Speaking at a news conference in Miami, USA, ahead of Real Madrid clash with Manchester United in the International Champions Cup on Wednesday, Lopetegui dismissed talk of Bale joining United this summer.
“Gareth Bale is happy to play at Real Madrid,” Lopetegui said.
“I don’t want to talk about hypothetical situations.
“Gareth is happy to play at Real Madrid. This is a fantastic opportunity for him to show his talent.
“He is with the team. He is happy and aligned with our goals. It is the start of an exciting path for us.”
Lopetegui added, “Bale had worked extremely well with Benzema in training. If this is the squad I have at start of season I will be a happy man.”
