Transfer: Real Madrid coach, Lopetegui finally speaks on Modric leaving Bernabeu

Real Madrid coach, Julen Lopetegui has finally clarified that the club have no intention of allowing their midfield maestro, Luka Modric, leave the Los Blacos this summer.

Modrid, who did not play in Madrid’s 3-1 win over Juventus on Saturday night in the International Champions Cup, has been linked with a move away from the La Liga giants.

Lopetegui, however, insisted that the 32-year-old will not be leaving the Santiago Bernabeu.

“The president has already given an answer, I don’t have much else to add,” Lopetegui told the Daily Mail.

“Modric’s an extraordinary player, we await him with open arms. I talked to him after his excellent World Cup and we’ll see if he can play on August 15 [against Atletico Madrid in the European Super Cup].

“I told him he was a player I’m passionate about, I love him and he knows it. He’ll be happy with the proposal he receives here.

“He’ll be happy to play football, like he already was, at Real Madrid. Luka is a Madrid player and will continue to be, I have no doubt. We’ve enjoyed having him and we’ll continue to do so.”

Modric, who has won four Champions League trophies among other silverware in his time with Real, is under contract in the Spanish capital until 2020.
