Transfer: Pogba’s move to Real Madrid in danger with Mourinho set to replace Zidane

Jose Mourinho is set for a shock return to Real Madrid, leaving Paul Pogba’s wish to join the LaLiga giants up in the air, according to El Pais.

Madrid president Florentino Perez and head coach Zinedine Zidane remain at odds over the failure to sign Pogba.

And with pressure rising on Zidane, an early-season return to the Santiago Bernabeu for Mourinho could be in the offing.

Early in the summer, Perez wanted to sign Christian Eriksen from Spurs, but Zidane made clear he didn’t want the Danish midfielder.

The Real president was never sold over paying huge money and wages for Pogba, a situation that led the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, into attempting to engineer a return to Juventus.

With the new season fast approaching, and pre-season having been far from smooth sailing for Madrid – notably losing 7-3 to Atletico during the club’s US tour – Zidane is now finding himself under increasing pressure.

The Gareth Bale issue has further clouded his situation at the club, with Zidane keen to get rid of the Welshman, only for Perez to block a switch to China.

Mourinho has been out of job since he was sacked at Old Trafford in December, after falling out with a number of players at United including Pogba.
