Barcelona defender, Gerard Pique, has reacted to the decision by Atletico Madrid forward, Antoine Griezmann, to snub a move to the La Liga champions.
Pique hailed the Frenchman’s decision and harbours no bad feelings towards him.
The 27-year-old, who was expected to join Manchester United last summer, was expected to complete a controversial move to Barcelona after the World Cup.
Griezmann confirmed last night that he would remain at Atletico.
“I have decided to stay,” he said in a mini documentary which aired last night.
“Atletico are doing everything they can to keep the team growing, it’s amazing, they’re making a lot of efforts, I cannot stand it, I need to tell people that I want to stay.”
In response, Pique tweeted, “Another way to see the life of a football player and how to make the most important decision of his career.
“Thanks to the team of Kosmos Studios and especially to Antoine Griezmann for these last weeks.
“You decided to stay at Atleti and I hope you have great this season!’ The show documented Griezmann’s thought process from as far back as April, with Atletico offering him more money but Barcelona providing a better shot at silverware.”
