Transfer news: Aubameyang, Malcom not competitive on the pitch, Arsenal should aim higher – Pe

Arsenal legend, Emmanuel Petit has questioned the quality of the club transfer targets, Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bordeaux’s Malcom.

According to Petit, the Gunners should be aiming higher instead of going for Aubameyang and Malcom who are not competitive on the pitch at the moment.

He also said that he was unsure whether the wages Arsenal were willing to pay were sufficient to attract real top-tier quality to the Emirates.

“I wonder about the quality of players Arsenal have been signing,” Petit told Paddy Power.

“They’re struggling to bring in top-quality players, and to keep the ones they have.

“It has been like this for a long time. They must be more competitive on the market – times have changed since I left.

“There has been a lot of speculation about the likes of Aubameyang and Malcolm coming in but Arsenal should be aiming higher.

“Because they are not competitive on the pitch at the moment, Arsenal need to be more competitive with wages.

“If you can’t guarantee trophies – or at least compete to win them – then you must offer players more in order to come to the club. That’s the way it works,”‎ he said.

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger is looking at signing Malcom and Aubameyang before the end of the winter transfer market.

Aubameyang and Malcom are among the players identified to improve Arsenal this month as they fight to get back into the Champions League.
