Transfer news: Arsene Wenger wants Chelsea’s David Luiz

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has indicated interest in Chelsea’s David Luiz ahead of the deadline of the January transfer window.

Arsenal made inquiry for the 30-year-old Brazilian during talks with the Blues for forward Olivier Giroud.

Chelsea are closing in on a deal for Giroud with reports in Italy claiming the Blues have agreed a £15m deal for the striker.

Conte is desperate to add at least one striker to his frontline before close of the transfer window.

Luiz is out of favour at Stamford Bridge and has been replaced by Andreas Christensen in Conte’s starting XI.

According to The Express, Arsenal expressed their interest in Luiz during discussions and even suggested including him in a deal for Giroud.

However, Chelsea are unlikely to sanction Luiz’s departure to a direct rival and that could lead Arsenal back to West Brom ace Jonny Evans

The Baggies are willing to listen to offers for the Northern Irishman but will demand in excess of £30m to let him go.

Meanwhile, Chelsea winger Charly Musonda completed his loan move to Celtic on Monday night after agreeing an 18-month deal.
