Arsenal have given up on a deal to sign Chelsea defender, David Luiz.
DailyStar Sunday reports that the Gunners called off the contract due to the Brazilian International’s wage demands.
Arsene Wenger was up for a raid on the Gunners’ London rivals to get the central defender.
Luiz has been out of favour following a bust-up with manager, Antonio Conte and Wenger was ready to take full advantage by getting the player to swap west London for north.
Luiz will want to play to try and win a place in Brazil’s squad for the World Cup.
The 30-year-old has lost his place to Andreas Christensen in recent weeks and could end up sitting on the bench for the remainder of the season unless the Dane has a poor run of form or picks up an injury.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are eyeing up Barcelona’s Denis Suarez as a replacement up top for forward, Michy Batshuayi.
Batshuayi is a regular benchwarmer for the Blues and is likely to want a move this month to give himself a shot at getting in Belgium’s World Cup squad.
Chelsea are said to be open to letting him go on loan but only if a replacement can be found.
Transfer expert, Ian McGarry said on the latest episode of The Transfer Window podcast: “Chelsea have been looking to add more firepower since the summer window.
“What they haven’t found in a natural goalscoring striker and instead have turned their attention to a Barcelona player who is available for transfer Denis Suarez.
“Antonio Conte was prepared to give Michy Batshuayi a chance to prove himself but that’s proven not to have worked out.
“If Batshuayi wants to leave in order to prove himself for a place in Belgium’s squad at the World Cup, then that would happen, as long as Chelsea can get someone in.
