Manchester United have offered Juan Mata a 12-month extension, to try to stop him walking on a free transfer.
Mata, 30, is out of contract in the summer, after joining from Chelsea in January 2014 for £37million.
The Spaniard who has made 208 appearances and scored 44 goals, earns around £140,000-a-week.
United are keen to avoid the star leaving Old Trafford on a free, especially with Barcelona and Arsenal interested in the player.
The Red Devils are also in talks over extensions for Anthony Martial and David de Gea.
But United’s hierarchy are increasingly reluctant to offer long-term contracts for players over 30.
