Manchester United missed out on signing Tanguy Ndombele, because they wanted more time to sort out Paul Pogba’s future, L’Equipe reports.
Their Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, moved ahead of them to land Ndombele on a six-year contract, after a club-record fee of £65million.
It is however understood that when the midfielder arrived in London with his representatives, he had not made up his mind whether to sign for Spurs or not.
Ndombele had to wait for United, who requested that his agents give them more time, so they can sort out Pogba’s situation, with the later strongly linked with a move away from Old Trafford.
However, the former Lyon ace’s reps got tired of waiting and sealed a deal with Tottenham.
Juventus were also close to agreeing a deal with Ndombele last month.
