Transfer: Emery speaks on Asensio’s injury affecting Arsenal’s deal to sign Ceballos

Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, has said that he doesn’t know whether Marco Asensio’s injury will affect the Gunners deal to sign Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid this summer.

Emery stated this following his side’s 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid on penalties in a pre-season friendly match in the early hours of today in Maryland after the game ended 2-2 draw.

Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored for Arsenal, while embattled winger Gareth Bale and midfielder Marco Asensio netted for Zinedine Zidane’s men.

Asensio sustained a knee injury during Real Madrid’s clash against Arsenal.

Asked if Asensio’s injury will affect the Ceballos deal, Emery was quoted by Football London as telling reporters at post-match: “Asensio injury is bad news for Real Madrid.

“I do not know whether it will affect the Ceballos deal.”

Emery added: “We are very happy. We finished today, the last match, with the same spirit we played before. We used different players and took minutes and confidence.

“The result isn’t important but we showed a good level and when we needed young players their performance was perfect.

“We have a lot of supporters in America, to feel them with us is important.”
