Ajax captain, Matthijs de Ligt, has admitted that it would be “nice” to play alongside Frenkie de Jong and Lionel Messi at Barcelona next season.
The 19-year-old captained the Dutch club to their first domestic double in 17 years and is being chased by a number of big European clubs this summer.
Manchester United have reportedly tabled a £350,000-a-week contract for De Ligt, which would make him the highest paid teenager in world football.
Although Barca have been favourites for De Ligt, the Dutchman is not convinced by their latest offer and PSG have reportedly taken the lead in the race to sign him.
While De Ligt has refused to give any clues about which club he will choose next season, he claims he would relish playing alongside Messi and close friend, De Jong, who recently secured a €75million (£67m) move to Barca.
Asked about the extra competition for places at the Nou Camp, De Ligt told Mundo Deportivo: “Barcelona have great defenders and it is logical and normal that there is competition, but it is not something that frightens me.
“Of course it would be nice to play with De Jong and Messi at Barcelona, but I must look at what is best for me.”
